Why are we client centered?

The better question is "Aren't all law firms client centered?" We think the answer to this question should definitely be yes. But unfortunately, the answer is defnitely not.

We mean no disrespect to other lawyers or their firms. We don't think there's some grand conspiracy among lawyers to rip off the unsuspecting public and to keep people in the dark. Those things may happen from time to time, but most firms aren't client centered for another reason: It's hard to do.

Many lawyers went to law school because their families told them they were good at arguing. Many others went to law school because there's a lot of money to be made. Few lawyers became lawyers to think about how to design a law firm. Especially when those same lawyers have to do the hard work of lawyering.

All of that is understandable, but in our view: those are poor excuses to not build a client-centered law firm. And we think it's important to do that. This isn't our case, it's yours. We know what it's like to be forgotten about by a doctor or ripped off by a contractor. It sucks. And quite simply, we don't want to provide services that suck. You desrve better than that.

What does it mean to be client centered?

To us, it means making it as easy as possible to navigate a hard time in your life. Going through a criminal appeal or an expungement or a driver's license restoration or any of the services we offer is hard. It's complicated. We'd daresay these processes are often over-complicated.

It shouldn't be over-complicated dealing with your lawyer. From first phone call to final farewell, we aim to make dealing with us the simplest and most pleasant part of your experience. We want to minimize your anxiety. We do our best to be accessible on a schedule that works for you. We try to explain the process in a way that makes it easier to understand. We try to minimize the hassles of excessive paperwork. We rely on good systems and great talent from all over the world to keep your out-of-pocket costs down.

And most-importantly, we are focused on getting ourselves in the best position to achieve outstanding results in your case, even as the deck is so often stacked against us.

What doesn't it mean to be client centered?

Think about it like this. Say you had a consultation with an elite heart surgeon because you need a valve replaced. You have a question and don't feel comfortable getting a good answer from the nurse or the receptionist. In your mind, this is a pretty urgent matter. You call the heart surgeon, but she's in the middle of surgery on another patient.

Is she a patient-centered doctor if she takes your call right then and there?

In the same way, our lawyers have to dedicate a lot of time to doing the actual work of law. And much like surgery, this requires uninterrupted stretches of intense concentration. Being client centered doesn't mean unfettered access to your lawyer. Because when it's your case we're working on, you won't want us to take the call from that other client.

Being client centered also doesn't mean that the client gets to treat anyone on the team poorly. Our work is too important for us to take abuse from our clients or their loved ones.

How is our firm client centered?

It starts with our people. We have good people who care about their work and our clients. It then comes down to our systems and technology. We use this to reduce the friction between us and you. We minimize paperwork and speed up things like payents. We communicate regularly. We track the progress of your case. We limit the number of cases we take so that our clients are served properly.

We also focus on doing really excellent legal work. Ultimately, that's what you're here for: for us to get a job done. So we work hard on our craft and getting you or your loved one in the best possible position to OVERCOME whatever it is that got you in this mess.
